Sangama of Pittsburgh
New Event Deepavali & Rajyothsava Celebrations
For a long time the Kannada families living in the Pittsburgh area needed to have social gatherings. A few interested members in the Kannada community were taking care of entertainment programs. Our local community gave excellent support to this by participating, investing in time and money. In recent years the Kannada community has grown considerably. Organizing programs and communicating the information to this growing community had become difficult and almost impractical. Many of us started feeling for the need of a formal association to be formed to serve all our requirements in a better way.
Initially some of the interested members met and conducted a survey to assess the interest in forming a Kannada Association for the Pittsburgh area. The response was an overwhelmingly positive one. Later in the year, some of us gathered for a brainstorming session to address such issues as WHY and WHAT type of association in Kannada was needed. A structure was developed by these interested members and presented to the Kannada Community for approval and modification. These volunteers met later on and set up a first election of the Office Bearers of the Association. The association was named "Sangama of Pittsburgh". This was done in the Fall of 1994. The 'Sangama of Pittsburgh' has been active in bringing many cultural activities. |
